Leda Sammarco – writer’s coach

Thomas Jefferson said, ‘I cannot live without books.’  And neither can I!

I feel like I came into this world reading and have always got a book on the go – sometimes more than one.  If I’m traveling, even on a short train journey, I always have to take a book with me.
My favourite authors include:

Deepak Chopra, Po Bronson, Dan Millman, Martha Beck, Dale Carnegie, Debbie Ford and Neale Donald Walsch.  I also love Arthur Ransome and P.G.Wodehouse.

This is my story...

My love of words and books led to a degree in French and German from the University of Westminster where my specialist subject was literature. The authors who influenced me most were Eugène Ionesco, whose plays made me consider the absurdity of life, and Hermann Hesse, whose novels introduced me to the idea of self-awareness.  Not quite ready to leave those ivory towers, I did a masters degree in French and Theory of Literature at University College London.

I started my career in market research with pulp and paper industry specialists, NLK Consultants. My role was conducting interviews over the phone and face-to-face in the UK and abroad, as well as writing reports and articles.  I found that I loved writing and talking to people and it inspired a move into public relations.

I cut my PR teeth working for Imperial Cancer Research Fund before joining VLP, a lively business-to-business PR agency. Working across a range of accounts, I quickly got to grips with different subject areas finding the right angles to communicate them to target audiences.  I wrote press releases, case studies, newsletters and articles. And learnt to play table football too!

After a few years, I decided to return to my first love: books.  I spent some time in the publishing industry including Random House and MQP Ltd, mainly within marketing and co-edition sales.

I returned to PR and marketing briefly, for the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London, before setting up my own business as a writer’s coach.  And I've never looked back!   This favourite quote of mine sums it up perfectly:

Everyone has a purpose in life...a unique gift or special talent to give to others.
And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.
