One to One Coaching Services for Writers

1-1 Coaching

Your Book Detective is a coaching process to solve the mystery of the unknown author:

That means you!

Are you ready to discover the book that you really want to write?

If you’ve found your way to this page you are clearly thinking seriously about writing your first book.  In fact, you are probably ‘on fire’ to write it and have an irrepressible urge that won’t let you alone.  You are passionate about making a difference in the world and can’t wait to share your knowledge and experiences with others.

You are always jotting down ideas (maybe in a special notebook) and you’ve told people that you are going to write a book.  It is something you came here to do, part of your life purpose.  You are dreaming of the day that you hold your finished book in your hand.

You know that your book will enable you to reach and influence many more people than you ever could alone.  It will also be an important part of your inspired business and enhance your credibility.  In short, it is the best calling card you can ever have.

But, despite all your enthusiasm you still haven’t got started.

  • You are afraid everything has been said before
  • You doubt your credibility
  • You feel overwhelmed about taking your idea and structuring it into a book
  • You are afraid it won’t be well-written
  • You worry it may be self-indulgent
  • You have several ideas and don’t know which one to choose

You Are Not Alone

All first-time authors experience some or all of these fears.  It’s natural.  This is a big deal – you are considering taking a part of yourself and putting it out into the world for others to see.  It’s scary.

Writing a book is one of the most challenging, yet delightful and rewarding journeys you will ever make and you are allowed to seek support to get you started.  You aren’t expected to be clear about which book to write, your message or the structure.  You may even be jumping ahead and worrying about the route to market and whether you should self-publish or approach a traditional publisher.  In fact, it all feels like a bit of a mystery: you are in the dark and don’t know which way to turn.

Are You Ready to Solve the Mystery?

As your Book Detective I’ll be helping you bring things out of the dark and into the light.  With me as your partner you’ll be looking for clues about the book that is really inside you.  Once you have discovered what that is you’ll be able to go with your creative flow and enjoy writing your first draft.  By investigating upfront, you’ll know where you are headed rather than hoping it will work itself out along the way and then finding - several thousand words later - that you have to go back to the beginning and start again or end up doing multiple rewrites.

When you work with me you’ll experience the joy of being heard, seen and recognised as an author with a great book in you.

You’ll develop clarity (inner knowing, a-ha moments and bursts of excitement)

You’ll be able to tell me your ideas and together we’ll investigate and discover your motivation and where that comes from, and identify the message you want to share with the world.

You’ll start to feel confident

When you know why you want to write, you’ll know what you want to say, how you want to say it and why you are the person to write this book.  You will own your credibility.  Yes, indeed!

You’ll feel supported throughout this process

Imagine discussing and exploring all of this with someone who understands the unique process of starting your writing journey and who can guide you through the most effective steps, so that your creativity flows.  With me as your Book Detective you’ll enjoy seeing the pieces of the puzzle all come together and you’ll feel inspired, empowered and ready to start writing the first draft of your book; a book that will make a difference in the world and support your business brand and mission.

Working with Leda at the outset of my writing project was invaluable as I was too close to it to see things clearly. She saw the common patterns and strands and offered gentle and powerful insights. Leda is brilliant at getting to the heart of something and distilling it. She held up a mirror in which I could see myself more clearly and is affirming, encouraging and positive. She really helped me start more strongly than I would have on my own.

Leda was there at the very start of my book writing journey.  I was far too close and emotionally attached to it, but she was an inspiration, as she sees things in such a different way.  Her creativity, knowledge, patience, calm and objectivity have been greatly valued.  She motivated and believed in me from the outset, sharing my vision and keeping me on track to secure a publishing deal. Her coaching and ongoing support has been invaluable.

How does it work?

I love to demystify the creative process and empower you with the clarity and knowledge that enable you to actually get started on writing the first draft of your book, which will form an integral part of your inspired business and make a difference in the world.

We’ll spend four sessions together, one-to-one, by phone.  I’ll make case notes during each one and email these to you afterwards.  I’ll also assign you some activities in between sessions, where you’ll get to do some additional investigating of your own.  Ooh!

Once the mystery is solved you’ll be ready to start writing your first draft.  I’ll be providing you with Your Resourceful Book Detective Kit to empower you on the next stage.  This kit will:

  • Enable you to consider whether to self-publish or go the traditional route
  • Provide you with a publishing proposal template (essential if you decide to go the traditional route and still very useful if you self-publish)
  • Inform you about why you need to obtain permission if you decide to use quotations in your book
  • Contain other essential contacts and resources for the next stages of your journey

It’s £450 for this seven-week one-to-one coaching programme.  Payment is upfront via your PayPal account or debit/credit card.  It may count as a tax-deductible business expense, but you’ll need to check this with your accountant.

How do I know this approach is for me?

You are a spiritual/inspired/conscious entrepreneur and want to make a difference in the world with your book.  You are also aware of the business benefits that it can bring.

You are at the very beginning of your writing journey.  You will have thought a lot about your book and most likely have jotted down ideas, but you won’t have begun writing.  You are looking for clarity and a step by step process to enable you to structure your idea into a book, so you can start writing your first draft.

What genres do you work in?

I exclusively coach people who are writing in the following non-fiction genres: mind body spirit, personal development, self-help, inspirational memoir and conscious business.

How do I know I’m ready for this now?

You are ‘on fire’ to write your first book and you feel totally committed to the project.

You also need to be several years into your business and to have achieved a certain level of success.  That way you’ll have clarity around your business messages, services and tribe, which is crucial in being able to identify the message you wish to share in your book as well as understanding how it fits with your business brand and mission.

Financially and time-wise you need to be in a position to commit to this seven week process and the activities in between sessions if you are to get the most out of it.  This will also stand you in good stead for beginning to write your first draft.

If you are still finding your way or hoping that the book will somehow launch your fledgling business, then it’s probably too soon to be thinking about writing a book.

What happens when I start writing?

Whilst I don’t offer manuscript reviews or editorial services, I can certainly recommend people who can help you with that.  Plus, I offer 30 minute ‘magnifying glass’ sessions, so you can check in with me for additional clarity or accountability whilst writing your first draft.  You can book these if and when you need them.

What’s the next step?

Fill out the enrolment consultation form below.  When I receive this, I’ll be in touch to suggest a few times we could speak and we’ll schedule in a 30-45 minutes conversation (free of charge, by telephone) so that I can find out more about your book ideas and what you are struggling with and you can ask any questions you have and we can decide if this would be the best support for you and if you are ready for it.
